Adobe illustrator - The drawing Software
Adobe Illustrator is a vector drawing application. Vector images and graphics are made of points, lines, shapes, and curves based on mathematical formula rather than pixels and therefore can be scaled up or down while maintaining image quality without loss of resolution.
One of Britain's most influential artists, David Hockney believes the latest generation of software is so "fantastic" that he can not only reproduce the look of traditional painting but can also get more subtle effects than with old techniques.
A Digital Print
A digital print is a physical representation of all the information held within the drawing file created by hand using Adobe Illustrator software which is then sent to a printer. It is not like a photographic copy of original artwork such is the case when making prints of oil paintings. The file produced contains all the information of the image that has been created and drawn on the computer screen using various tools such as pen and brushes and colour palettes. Lines are drawn on the screen and are curved between two vector points. Colours are mixed on the screen. Gradients are created on the screen when painting a coulur fill
The printed result is a high-quality representation of the artwork file straight from the painting created on the computer screen.
Giclee Printing
This printing technique is done by a specific pigment ink printer. The ink itself is colour pigment mixed with an oil-based carrier similar to the mix for oil paint or indeed a linocut print. The image is then printed onto archival Fine Art Paper such as Hahnemuhle.
The paper can be of various weights -measured in grams e.g. from 200gsm - 600gsm. and can have a longevity of several hundred years.
Giclee Prints are museum quality prints built to last.
All my artwork is Giclee Printed.
